Follow the King

How far are you willing to follow the King? Pastor Micah Griffith shares how the call of Jesus' disciples is to follow Him wherever He leads—no matter the cost.

Making disciples of all nations begins by making disciples where you are. Discipleship is not about trying to give people more of you—but more of Jesus!

Becoming a disciple of Jesus does not begin with what we do; discipleship begins with what Jesus has done. The greatest call of a being disciple is not to do something for Jesus, but to be with Jesus. It is in making disciples that followers of Jesus grow in being disciples.

Through the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper, Jesus was identifying with the rebellious people of God, the Passover Lamb, and God’s covenant with Israel—but He was also testifying Himself to be the Greater Israel, the Greater Passover Lamb, and bringing a Greater Covenant. 

A Biblical church demonstrates, rehearses, and celebrates the Person and Work of Christ through baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is an initial act of obedience after salvation that identifies us with Christ and His Body. It is not a condition of salvation—baptism is an evidence of salvation.

On the day we celebrate our national independence as Americans, may we also celebrate our personal dependence on God. Every Christian needs to live dependent on God's Son, God's Spirit, and God's sovereignty.

Evangelism is teaching someone how to respond to Jesus—not to an invitation. We cannot separate the Person of Jesus from the Work of Jesus—He is both Lord and Savior. Without this clear understanding of Jesus, one will not have a clear message of the Gospel. 

Evangelism is lovingly proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ with the prayerful hope God will complete His work of salvation. The confession made by Peter in Matthew 16:19 that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God" is the foundation—the Rock—upon which the Church is built. 

Biblical community is not about a church's devotion to one another—but to the Lord. The love and unity found in Biblical community is how believers grow in the Lord—and how unbelievers are drawn to the Lord.

Biblical community is not found by showing up at the same place at the same time for the same event. Biblical community is found by exposing your messy life, being embraced in Gospel love, and being invited into the messy lives of others.
